RENOVATION & CARFUL CONVERSION OF AN APARTMENT

A project between tradition and timeless Modernism

This apartment was modernized with great sensitivity while respecting its original substance. The goal was to create a harmonious connection between the existing and the new, between the inside and the outside. A sense of home meets a modern, functional living concept. Traditional materials such as stone and wood are integrated into a clear, timeless design language. Warm, earthy natural tones are a reference to the surrounding rural environment. This brings calm and lightness to the interior. The conversion of a rental apartment is a balancing act between high architectural standards and practicality – so the challenge was to make efficient use of high-quality materials and fixtures. A restrained living design was deliberately created that is durable and enduring, yet full of character. The result is a place that feels familiar.

Targeted adjustments to the floor plan not only created new space, but also emphasized the clear structure within the apartment – this made it possible to coordinate vanishing lines, make ideal use of the lighting conditions and create a feeling of spaciousness. Flowing transitions between the rooms create an open, homely atmosphere.

A central design element is the poured terrazzo in the hallway, kitchen and bathroom, which can be found as a historical material in the hallway. This creates a harmonious transition when entering the apartment. The other living spaces are laid with country-style parquet flooring.

Seemingly small details have a big impact. The frosted glass partition wall used in the bathroom distributes the natural light over a large area in the room and generates a previously unseen depth and comfort.

The custom-made kitchen in a chrome steel look makes a statement in the apartment, while at the same time being integrated into the overall color and functional concept.
